PETITION TO CITY OF SAN DIEGO TO IMPLEMENT SECOND WEEKLY TRASH PICK-UP IN MISSION BEACH

This Petition is being signed because I am concerned about trash issues in Mission Beach. Specifically, for numerous years in the past, Mission Beach had two days each week (bi-weekly) when its residential trash cans were picked-up and/or emptied by the City.

The bi-weekly trash service ended about two years ago when Mission Beach implemented a curb-side recycling program with containers that are picked-up every two (2) weeks.

When curb-side recycling started, the City reduced the residential trash container pick-up to one (1) day per week. Unfortunately, because of the high density living in Mission Beach, which significantly increases over holidays and summer months due to vacation rentals, a single trash pick–up per week is insufficient.

Since trash pick-up was reduced to one day per week, the Mission Beach community frequently finds overflowing trash cans resulting in an unsightly scene and potential health issues. Further, many Mission Beach residents, merchants and visitors believe that there has been an increase in flies which may be linked to the overflowing trash issue.

With the above in mind, I/we have signed this Petition to respectfully urge the City of San Diego, its City Council Members and Mayor Bob Filner to take immediate action to implement bi-weekly trash pick-ups in Mission beach commencing June 1, 2013, and ending September 15, 2013.
